Inspire Me

Grandma’s cooking

I know this is an interior design and home decor blog, but sometimes I can’t help wanting to share other sources of inspiration. I found this on tumblr and started reflecting, first of all how true it is, about grandmothers and food (my grandma’ can’t come around without bringing something yummy) and secondly how many sources of inspiration there are for our homes. Our culture, background, family, and cooking can all be great sources of inspiration! Some of these plates have such lovely color schemes! Enjoy!

I don’t like killing plants but…

I really suck at keeping them alive. I try, I honestly try, to water them as often as I remember, but I’m too lazy and forgetful to make it a habit… So what to do? I love plants inside, but have trouble keeping them alive. I’ve found two potential solutions, have a look!

1. The obvious. What I was going to write about from the beginning. Cacti (or just cactuses, but I think cacti sounds that much cooler!) and succulents.

2. This awesome, eye catching little invention by Patrick Morris, that gradually waters your plants with gravity’s help and only needs refilling once a fortnight!

Pink Parrot

I must admit, I’m a litte weak for HM, like a true Swede! The combination of quality, good prices and fun pieces is a winning concept (most of the time). I haven’t been too interested in their HOME colloections, but then this pink parrot caught my eye and I couldn’t resist! A fun compliment in any home, perfect in time for spring!

Focus on Relaxing

Even though most of us don’t spend the majority of our time at home with all the stress of work, exercise, family and hobby. There is a lot of pressure from everywhere to live a certain life, but dare to focus your energy on what you enjoy. If you don’t want to – don’t. Anyway, the time we do spend at home, is usually a time for relaxing, whether that is sleeping on the couch, trying that new recipe or blogging. Home needs to be a place where we can zone out and focus on what makes us happy and relaxed.

So how do we do this? Well, an effort is necessary, though not a very big one. It can be as simple as switching to soothing colours in the bedroom. Just get some new throws in a colour you find relaxing. To me that’s, grey, light blue and nude (but other colours like rust and brown can be just as calming).

The second big thing you can do is de-clutter. Put stuff away, shut it in a cupboard or organize it properly (if you’re ambitious). Even if I find this really difficult, I really appreciate a de-cluttered space when I come home from work, it is some much easier to relax! Give it a try – give everything a proper place and it’ll be easier. You might even be able to make de-cluttering a habit!! Interested? Check this out! Good luck!

Sleepover!

I’m usually not a fan of sleepover sofas, they’re usually either overpriced, uncomfortable, or simple not good-looking. But from the first time I saw this baby in the IKEA magazine that dropped into my postbox, I’ve been wanting it in my future livingroom. It’s jut perfectly designed for all types of hangouts and sleepovers! And I love the cerise color (though I’m probably to cowardly to get it so I’ll probably end up with the grey one, which also is lovely)!

The actual shopping for a sofa has been a nightmare of mine for a while – and I haven’t been looking forward to the many hours of research and testing and walking around in huge warehouses unable to make a decision (because that’s what usually happens when I face a big investment decision), but now that I’ve had my eyes on this one for a while, I’m just hoping it’s as comfy as it is beautiful to look at. But I admit I’m a little worried I’ll be disappointed. That’s probably why I haven’t gone down to the nearest IKEA warehouse to try it out yet… Maybe one day I’ll get my ass of my current sofa and onto this one for a test sitting!
